Sister Mary Lorraine Holzman, IHM

Sister Mary Lorraine Holzman died on November 17, 2021 in Camilla Hall.  Sister was in the 55th year of her religious life.

Lorraine Eleanor Holzman was born on July 17, 1948 in Wilkes-Barre, PA.  Her parents Frank and Pauline (Stone) Holzman raised their family in St. Ann Parish in Emmaus, PA.  Lorraine attended St. Ann Elementary in Emmaus and Nativity of Our Lord in Scranton.  She graduated from elementary school in 1962 and in 1966 Lorraine graduated from Central Catholic High School in Allentown, PA.  Later in Community, Lorraine earned degrees from Immaculata College and St. Charles Seminary.

Lorraine entered the Congregation on September 15, 1966.  She received her religious name, Sister Mary Lorraine, and her habit on June 27, 1967.  Sister Mary Lorraine professed her First Vows on June 28, 1969.

Sister Mary Lorraine was a very skilled primary grade teacher.  In the fall of 1969 through the school year ending 1988, Sister taught children in first and second grade in Immaculate Conception, Philadelphia; Assumption, West Grove; St. Joseph in Lincoln, Nebraska; St. Laurence, Highland Park, and St. Anne Rock Hill, SC.

Sister Mary Lorraine then served as Elementary School Principal from the fall of 1988 through the school year ending 2006.  Sister led as Principal at St. John Bosco School in Hatboro, SS. Peter and Paul School in Decatur, GA; Assumption School in Feasterville; and Immaculate Heart School in Girardville for the sum of 18 years.

In August 2006, Sister served as an Administrative Assistant at St. Margaret School in Reading for one year.  In August 2007 through August 2020, Sister Lorraine served as the DRE for St. Theresa Parish in Hellertown.  During the latter part of her service in Hellertown, Sister valiantly battled cancer and cared for her ill Mom at the same time.  In October 2021, Sister received an official “change” to Camilla Hall in order that she may receive care.  Sister succumbed to the ravages of cancer on November 17, 2021.  May her beautiful soul rest in peace.

In addition to her IHM Community, her dear mother, Pauline Holzman, her brother Frank (Diane), and her sisters Nancy (Steve) Bench, and Beverly (Dale) Bortz survive Sister Mary Lorraine.

Most Reverend Alfred Schlert celebrated Sister’s Funeral Mass on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.  The following joined Bishop Schlert at the altar:  Rev. Jerome Tauber (homilist), Rev. John Krivak, Rev. John Burger, Rev. Michael Callaghan, and Deacon Gerry Schmidt.10:30 a.m.
