IHM Literacy Centers

The IHM Family Literacy Center is committed to breaking the cycle of illiteracy that exists in many Hispanic families in the Coatesville area of PA. The Center provides an early learning center for toddlers from three to five years old. The learning center emphasizes English language acquisition in preparation for kindergarten. Simultaneously, mothers receive instruction in English as a second language, parenting support, life skills, citizenship, computer skills and in the MOTHEREAD national literacy program. All is provided in a faith-based atmosphere of prayer and Catholic values.

The IHM Center for Literacy and GED Programs
The goals of the IHM Center for Literacy are to equip the students (multi-ethnic, non-English speaking adult immigrants) with the language skills they need to communicate clearly and effectively in their local communities and workplaces. We endeavor to broaden and individualize computer programs; to introduce the customs and values of this country and to deepen their understanding of American History and to prepare a path to citizenship for those who desire it.

IHM Literacy Center West
The purpose of the IHM Center for Literacy is to teach English to non-English speakers. The majority of our students are also illiterate in their own languages so we teach our students to read and write English. We have 3 sessions a day, four days a week. Our levels begin with pre0literacy and advance to higher levels according to ability.
