Sister Mary C. Hall (formerly Sister Mary Cecilius) died in Camilla Hall on Friday, May 31, 2024 at the tender age of 97, in the 74th year of her religious life.
Mary was born on October 1, 1927. Her parents Robert and Cecilia (Fitzgerald) Hall raised their family of two boys and two girls in Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Philadelphia. Mary attended Most Blessed Sacrament Elementary School (1937-1945), West Catholic High School (1945-1949), and later, while in Community, Immaculata College.
Mary entered the Congregation on February 2, 1950, received her habit and her religious name Sister Mary Cecilius on August 16, 1950, and pronounced her First Vows on August 15, 1952.
Sister Mary’s first two assignments were in Household Management at St. Joachim Convent from March to June 1954, then to Immaculata University from August 1954 through August 1956.
From the fall of 1956 through the school year ended in 1989, Sister Mary Hall taught first grade children. Sister was a phenomenal first grade teacher. Sister had a special knack with the little ones, she drew from them the very best, she provided for them a firm foundation for academic success. Sister served children and families in the many parishes in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and beyond. Sister taught at St. Laurence, Upper Darby; St. Cyril, E. Lansdowne; Incarnation, Trenton; SS. Agatha-James, Philadelphia; St. Francis Xavier, Philadelphia; Sacred Heart, Havertown; SS. Simon & Jude, West Chester; and Good Shepherd, Philadelphia.
In the fall of 1989, Sister Mary returned to Immaculata University where she served as a very competent Office Assistant until February 2006. Sister remained at Immaculata University from 2006 – 2011 as a resident while serving on the Staff for our Sisters at Camilla Hall. In August 2011 Sister moved to Camilla Hall where she continued her loving service and her prayerful presence until her death on May 31, 2024.
In addition to her IHM Community, Sister Mary is survived by her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister is predeceased by her parents Robert J. and Cecilia Marie (Fitzgerald) Hall, her sister Elizabeth Chadzak (Bill), and her brothers Robert Hall (Adele) and Charles (Bud) Hall (Emi).
Reverend Joseph Mostardi, OSA (Homilist), Reverend Francis Chambers, OSA, and Reverend John Burger, SSC concelebrated Sister Mary C. Hall’s Funeral Mass on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.
