Sister Marie Mount, IHM

Sister Marie Mount (formerly Sister Maureen Patrice) died suddenly in Camilla Hall on June 16, 2023, in the 71st year of her religious life.

Marie Mount was born on October 6, 1934. Her parents, Joseph and Marie (McGrane) Mount raised their family of 4 girls and 2 boys in St. Francis de Sales Parish in Philadelphia.

Marie attended St. Francis de Sales Elementary School (1940-1948) and West Catholic Girls’ High (1948-1952). While in the Community, Marie earned a B.S. degree in Home Economics from Immaculata and later an M.S. degree in Home Economics from Drexel University.

Marie entered the Community shortly after graduation from high school on September 8, 1952. She received her habit and her religious name, Sister Maureen Patrice, on March 9, 1953. Sister pronounced her First Vows on March 9, 1955. When given permission to do so, Sister returned to the use of her baptismal name.

Sister’s teaching ministry began in March 1955.  Sister taught grade-school children in Immaculate Conception, Germantown and Incarnation, Trenton through December 1960. In January 1961, Sister Marie was asked to serve high school students at Villa Maria in Santiago, Chile. Sister remained in Chile through the school year ending in 1966. In the fall of 1966 through June 1972, Sister Marie taught Home Economics to high school students at Trinity High School in Shiremanstown.

In the fall of 1972 through the school year ending1978, Sister Marie served as Superior at St. Elizabeth Convent in Elizabethtown and Principal of the elementary school; Sister also taught a combined class of fifth and sixth graders.

Sister Marie moved to Cardinal O’Hara High School in the fall of 1978 where she taught Home Economics to high school students from grades 9 through 12 until the school year ending in 1981.

From the fall of 1981 through June 1987, Sister Marie served as Principal of St. Bartholomew School in East Brunswick and Superior at St. Bartholomew Convent; after which Sister returned to Santiago, Chile as Superior of Villa Maria and teacher in the school through the school year ending 1990.

When Sister returned from Chile, Sister taught fifth grade children at St. Michael School in Annandale, VA for one year; then to St. Anastasia School in Newtown Square, PA for three years where she taught fourth graders and served as local superior of the convent through the 1994 school year.

Sister Marie returned to her High School Alma Mater, West Catholic Girls’ High, in the fall of 1994 where she delighted in serving as an Office Assistant for the next 6 years. Following her ministry at West Catholic, Sister Marie served students at SS. John Neumann/Maria Goretti High as an assistant in the Guidance Office for the next 15 years, 2004-2019.

Graciousness and joyfulness characterized Sister Marie’s carrying out of every loving act of service throughout her religious life. In the fall of 2019, Sister Marie desired to serve our Sisters in Camilla Hall and she did so with fidelity and kindness until the suddenness of a stroke brought her loving service to completion. May our beautiful IHM Sister rest in peace.
