Sister Marian Vincent Morris, IHM

Sister Marian Vincent Morris died in Camilla Hall on Thursday, September 26, 2024 in the 71st year of her religious life not too long after celebrating her 90th birthday.

“Sis” Morris, as she was lovingly called by all who knew her, and even by those who did not know her, was born on May 27, 1934. Mary Morris was the daughter of Vincent and Nora (Dooley) Morris. Dad was a Philadelphia boy from St. Rose of Lima Parish in Philadelphia and Mom was born in Ireland. Mary and her two brothers were raised in St. Rose of Lima Parish.

Mary attended St. Rose of Lima Elementary School (1940-1948), and West Catholic Girls’ High School (1948-1952); after entering the community, Sister earned an A.B. degree from Immaculata College in Spanish and an M.A. from Marywood College in Bilingual Education.

Mary Morris entered the Community on February 11, 1954, the Marian Year as it was known in the Community. Sister received her habit and her religious name Sister Marian Vincent on August 16, 1954. Sister Marian Vincent professed her First Vows on August 15, 1956.

Shortly after First Profession, Sister Marian Vincent served as an educator and a bringer of joy wherever she went. Throughout Sister’s 59 years of teaching young children, she never lost that spark of caring, the spark that enriched all those around her.

Sister served in the Philadelphia area and in South America. In the Philadelphia Archdiocese, Sister Marian Vincent instructed children in Sacred Heart, St. Thomas Croydon, St. Joseph Hatboro, St. Augustine Bridgeport, St. Veronica, Incarnation, and St. Hugh.

When in South America, Sister Marian Vincent taught the little ones in San Antonio Callao, Peru; Inmaculado Corazon Miraflores; San Martin de Porres Santa Cruz; Nuestra Senora del Rosario in La Ligua, Chile; and Nuestra Sra. Del Carmen in Curacavi, Chile.

In between trips from the United States to South America, Sister Marian Vincent ministered in the Spanish Apostolate Program in the Philadelphia Archdiocesan Office from 1972-1976.

From August 2005-2006, Sister served as the Director of Religious Instruction in the Hispanic Apostolate. From August 2005-2015, Sister resided at Holy Innocents Convent and worked tirelessly in Hispanic Ministry.

Typically generous, Sister rendered service to our Sisters in Camilla Hall from August 2015 to December 2020 while she resided at Pacis Hall. At the turn of the New Year, Sister Marian Vincent transferred to Camilla Hall as a resident with her ever-ready smile and gracious demeanor. “Sis” touched many, many lives, young, old, and in between.

Sister served well and completely until her death on September 26, 2024. God rest you, “Sis.” We will miss you, pray for us!

In addition to her IHM Community, her local Community at Camilla Hall and in particular her life-long friend, Sister Marian Gregory, Sister Marian Vincent is survived by her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister is predeceased by her parents Vincent Joseph Morris and Nora (Dooley) Morris, her brothers Vincent Morris (Nancy) and James Morris (Peggy).
