Sister Maria Patris died in Camilla Hall on Friday, February 11, 2022, just shy of her 94th birthday. Sister was in the 75th year of her religious life.
Patricia Ann Hogan was born on February 19, 1928. Her dear Dad, Edward, was born in Ireland and her dear Mom, Anna (Desmond) Hogan was born in Chester, PA. Patricia and her family were parishioners of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Chester, PA. Patricia attended Resurrection of Our Lord and Immaculate Heart of Mary Elementary Schools in Chester; she then went to Notre Dame High School in Moylan from which she graduated in 1946. Later, while in Community, Sister earned degrees from Immaculata College and West Chester State College.
Patricia entered the Community on September 8, 1946; she received her habit and her religious name, Sister Maria Patris, on April 7, 1947; and, professed First Vows on April 17, 1949. Shortly after Sister’s First Profession, she taught children at St. Martin of Tours until the end of that school year. During the course of Sister’s teaching ministry, April 1949 through June 1965, she taught children in grades 1, 2, 6, and 7, primarily in the Philadelphia Archdiocese. Sister Maria Patris served in the following parishes and schools: St. Gabriel, Gesu, St. Cyril, and Sacred Heart in Manoa. During this time, Sister served at Villa Maria in Santiago, Chile for six years.
In the fall of 1965 through the school year ending 2004, Sister Maria Patris served in leadership as Superior/Teacher, Teacher/Principal, and/or Superior/Vice Principal in the following parish schools and convents: St. Joseph in Ashland, St. Anthony, Our Lady of Pompeii, St. Dominic, Immaculate Conception, St. Catharine in Reading, and St. David in Willow Grove. From August 2004 through August 2010, Sister Maria Patris lived at Pacis Hall as Superior and worked tirelessly at Camilla Hall.
In the fall of 2010, the Postulate Formative Community was housed at Our Lady of the Assumption Convent in Strafford – for three years, Sister Patris was a vibrant member of that local Community; and, in 2013, Sister was just as vibrant in the Novitiate Formative Community at Villa Maria House of Studies.
In August 2015, Sister Maria Patris entered Camilla Hall to be a vital member of the Apostolate of Prayer and to assist wherever and whenever she could. Sister’s warmth, generous spirit, kindness, and prayerfulness permeated the air around her. God rest her beautiful soul.
