Sister Eleanor Marie Conlan, IHM

Sister Eleanor Marie Conlan (formerly Sister Maureen Robert) died in Camilla Hall on March 16, 2023, three days after 86th  birthday in the 67th year of her religious life.

Eleanor was born on March 13, 1937.  Eleanor’s parents Robert Edmund and Mary (Dunne) Conlan raised their family of three in Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Philadelphia.  Eleanor attended Most Blessed Sacrament Elementary School (1942-1950) and West Catholic Girls’ High School (1951-1954). Later, while in the Community, Eleanor earned her A.B. degree from Immaculata College.

Eleanor entered the Congregation on February 11, 1956; she received her habit and her religious name, Sister Maureen Robert, on August 15, 1956; and she pronounced her First Vows on August 19, 1958.

Sister Eleanor was an excellent primary-grade teacher. What a firm academic foundation Sister provided for these children.  From the school year beginning in 1958 through the school year ending in 2000, Sister taught first and second grade children. Sister served children in the following parishes: Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Mt. Carmel, PA; St. Gabriel, Philadelphia; St. Rose of Lima, Eddystone; Holy Rosary, Ashland NJ; St. Joseph, Reading; Assumption, Atco NJ; St. Joseph, Aston; and St. Catharine, Reading.

Sister Eleanor assisted as a general school assistant and religious enrichment instructor for one year at Our Lady of Charity in Brookhaven. At the end of this assignment, Sister came to Villa Maria House of Studies to render much needed general assistance at the Motherhouse from August 2001 through July 2004.

Sister’s next and final mission was Camilla Hall.  Sister was an integral part of the staff at Camilla Hall who served our Sisters well and joyfully.  At the outset of 2017, Sister Eleanor transitioned from staff member to faithful member of the Apostolate of Prayer Team until her death on March 16, 2023. In all things, Sister Eleanor was a good and faithful Sister Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. God rest her beautiful soul.

In addition to her IHM Community, her Local Community at Camilla Hall, her friends, and her band, Sister Eleanor is survived by her brother Dennis Conlan (Marie) and her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.  Sister Eleanor is predeceased by her parents Robert Edmond Conlan and Mary Josephine Conlan (Dunne), and her sister Miriam Conlan (Quinn).

Reverend John Burger celebrated Sister Eleanor Conlan’s Funeral Mass on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at 10:30 a.m.
