S. Marian Leo Morris, IHM

Sister Marian Leo Morris died in Camilla Hall on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 in the 68th year of her religious life.

Margaret Morris was born on July 9, 1936. Margaret was the daughter of Leo and Anna (Alkins) both from Philadelphia. Mr. and Mrs. Morris raised their family of eight children in St. Clement Parish in Philadelphia.

Margaret attended St. Clement Elementary School (1943-1950) and West Catholic Girls’ High School (1950-1954). Later, while in the Community, Sister earned an A.B. degree from Immaculata in Elementary Education and an M.A. from Notre Dame Institute in Middleburg, VA in Religious Education.

Margaret entered the Community on September 8, 1955; she received her habit and her religious name, Sister Marian Leo, on March 8, 1956, and professed her First Vows on August 15, 1957.

In the Philadelphia area, Sister Marian Leo instructed children at St. Thomas, St. Joan of Arc, St. Agatha, Gesu, St. Katharine, St. Anselm  and St. Clement, her home parish where she served as Principal for four years; followed by a seven-year period of service as Vice Principal at St. William School. Sister next tutored upper-grade children at our IHM Educational Center at St. Martin School. In Bryn Mawr Sister was the Director of our IHM Educational Center at St. Aloysius Academy.

Outside of the Philadelphia area Sister Marian Leo taught seventh graders at St. Mary School in Norfolk Virginia and eighth graders at St. James School in Falls Church Virginia.

In August 2015 through July 2024, Sister Marian Leo resided in Pacis Hall and served our Sisters lovingly and faithfully at Camilla Hall. In July 2024, Sister’s residence was changed from Pacis Hall to Camilla Hall where she served all of our Sisters as a member of the Apostolate of Prayer and Presence until her death on October 22, 2024. Sister Marian Leo went to God with a heart full of good deeds and fidelity.

In addition to her IHM Community, in particular her local Community at Camilla Hall, Sister Marian Leo is survived by her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister is predeceased by her parents Leo and Anna (Alkins) Morris, her brothers William (Patricia), Reverend Robert Morris, Leo (Wanda), George (Geneva) and her sisters, Anna (John), Regina (Fred) and Elizbeth Morris.

Reverend John Burger, SSC, concelebrated Sister Marian Leo’s Funeral Mass with Reverend Keith Laskowski on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 10:30 a.m.
