RCA Recommendation:
We recommend that the members of the Congregation be made aware that there are sisters buried at Old Cathedral Cemetery, located at 1032 North 48th Street in Philadelphia. Add these graves to the annual visitation of grave sites during the month of November.
RESPONSE: There is a “Blue Book” containing all the cemeteries we have and listing all the sisters buried there. The book is huge and cannot be put online. There is a copy of the book in the archives and with the superiors in Camilla. However, we will investigate listing the Cemeteries, their locations, and the number of sisters buried there on our IHM website in the Sisters’ Section.
IHM Cemeteries
St. Peter Cemetery, Reading – 15 Sisters buried there of whom 14 were buried between 1861 and 1872 and 1 Sister in 1906
Old Cathedral Cemetery, Philadelphia – at Our Mother of Sorrows Parish Church – 13 Sisters buried there between 1866 and 1899
New Cathedral Cemetery, Philadelphia – 1 Sister buried there in 1887
St. Vincent Cemetery, Baltimore, MD – 1 Sister buried there in 1904
St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester – located outside West Chester city limits – 363 Sisters buried there in the community plot starting with Sister M. Gerard McAuley in September, 1873 until October, 1942 with Sister Maria Concepta Hanlon’s burial. Twelve Sisters were buried in St. Agnes after 1943.
Canada – Sister Mary Philomena Whipple – entered the Grey Nuns in Ottawa, Canada in August, 1866.

Monroe – Sister M. Henrietta Moroney AND Sister M. Celestine Renauld
Scranton – 19 Sisters
Malvern – 3 Sections: Immaculata 1, Immaculata 2, 1 Camilla
Immaculata 1 – 680 Sisters from January, 1943 – May, 1978
(674 + 6 in Mothers’ General Circle)
Immaculata 2 – 533 Sisters from May, 1978 to September, 1995
1 Camilla – 854 Sisters from October, 1995 to September, 2025
