Sister Theresa Marian died in Camilla Hall on October 4, 2022, in the 72nd year of her religious life.
Mary Agnes McCormick was born on April 11, 1932, in Philadelphia. Her parents Thomas and Catherine McCormick (who died in 1947), traveled extensively for employment commitments. From 1938 through grade school graduation (1946), Mary Agnes received her elementary education at St. Francis deSales Philadelphia, Our Lady of Lourdes Philadelphia, St. Anthony Puerto Rico, Academy of the Holy Name Tampa, FL, SS. Peter & Paul Cumberland, MD and Immaculate Heart Academy Fountain Springs, PA. Mary Agnes spent her high school days at Immaculate Heart Academy in Fountain Springs; Cecilian Academy Philadelphia, and Immaculate Heart Academy from which she graduated in 1950. Later, while in the Community, Sister earned her degree from Immaculata College in Spanish.
Mary Agnes entered the community on September 8, 1950; she received her habit and her religious name, Sister Theresa Marian, on March 26, 1951, and Sister pronounced her First Vows on April 5, 1953.
From April 1953 though August 2015, Sister Theresa Marian was on the move. Her teaching and pastoral ministry spanned different grades and places in both North and South America. Sister’s generous service extended far and wide. Sister very often pivoted between North and South America. Her places of service in North America included St. James Falls Church VA, Epiphany Miami FL, St. Veronica Philadelphia, St. Eugene Primos, Our Lady of Lourdes Shamokin, Archbishop Prendergast Drexel Hill, Bishop McDevitt High School Harrisburg, York Catholic, Marian High School Coaldale, and St. Peter Reading.
During Sister Theresa Marian’s years in South America, she served students and families in San Antonio Callao Peru, St. Martin de Porres Santa Cruz Lima, Nuestra Sna. del Carmen Lima, Villa Maria LaPlanicie Peru, Fe y Alegria, Barranca Peru and San Ildefonso.
Sister Theresa Marian entered the Apostolate of Prayer community at Camilla Hall in August 2015 at the age of eighty-three. Sister continued to serve joyfully and prayerfully until her death at the age of ninety on October 4, 2022.
In addition to her IHM Community, Sister’s many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews survive Sister. Sister’s parents, Thomas Joseph, and Catherine (Cavanaugh) McCormick, her brother John J. McCormick and her sisters Helen McCormick, Catherine McGuigan (James), Margaret Kilargis (Nicholas), and Joan Tunitis (Edmond). predecease Sister.
Reverend John Burger, S.C.C. was the main celebrant for Sister’s Funeral Mass on Wednesday October 12, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. Reverend Michael Callaghan C.M.
