Sister Rosemary Maguire (formerly Sister Marie Vianney) died in Camilla Hall on June 22, 2022 in the 70th year of her religious life.
Rosemary was born on February 27, 1935 in Harrisburg, PA. Her parents, William J. and Martha (Kelly) Maguire raised their family of six children in St. James Parish in Falls Church, Virginia.
Rosemary attended St. James Elementary School (1940-1948) and Holy Trinity High School in Georgetown, DC (1948-1952). Later, while in Community, Sister earned a degree from Immaculata College.
Rosemary entered the Community on September 8, 1952; she received her habit and her religious name Sister Marie Vianney on March 9, 1953 (in the late 80s Sister returned to using her baptismal name). Sister professed First Vows on March 9, 1955.
Sister Rosemary’s teaching ministry extended from March 1955 through the school year ending 1990. Sister taught elementary school children at St. Thomas More in Arlington, VA, St. Maria Goretti Hatfield, St. Anthony Philadelphia, Assumption Atco NJ, St. Francis Xavier Philadelphia, Villa Maria Academy Greentree, St. Michael Annandale VA, St. James Falls Church VA, St. Ephrem Bensalem, and Our Lady of Charity Brookhaven.
In the fall of 1990, Sister Rosemary served at our Motherhouse as a very hospitable receptionist. In the fall of 1991, Sister was a lovely addition at Bishop Shanahan as an efficient office assistant. In November 1999, Sister Rosemary entered Camilla Hall as part of the Apostolate of Prayer/Assist team. Sister served faithfully in this mission as in all of her missions until her death on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.
In addition to her IHM Community, her sister-in-law Bertha Maguire and her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, survive Sister Rosemary. Her parents William J Maguire and Martha C. Maguire (Kelly), her sister Elizabeth J. Dvorscak and her brothers Thomas Maguire (Joan), John L. Maguire, Brother Stephen Maguire OCSO, Rev. Robert E. Maguire, and S.J. predecease Sister.
Rt. Reverend Richard J. Antonucci, O.Praem celebrated Sister’s Funeral Mass on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Reverend John Joseph Novielli, O.Praem (Homilist) and Reverend John Burger, SCC concelebrated.
