Sister Michael Maureen McArdle died in Camilla Hall on March 10, 2023. Sister was in the 72nd year of her religious life. Sister died shortly before her 90th birthday.
Mary Teresa McArdle was born on March 29, 1933. Her parents Joseph and Anne (Ryan) McArdle raised their daughter in Holy Angels Parish in Philadelphia. Mary Theresa graduated from Holy Angels Elementary School in 1947; she graduated from Little Flower Catholic Girls’ High in 1951. Later, while in Community, Sister earned her degree from Immaculata College.
Mary Teresa entered the Congregation on September 8, 1951. Sister received her habit and her religious name, Sister Michael Maureen, on March 10, 1952, and she pronounced her First Vows on March 11, 1954.
Sister Michael Maureen taught children in grades 2 through 8 from the fall of 1954 to the school year ending in 1999. Sister taught music to the children as well as being a full-time classroom teacher. Sister touched so many children and brought joy wherever she ministered. Her skill as a teacher and as a music educator can never be denied. Sister served as a teacher in St. Joseph, Chester Plaza; St. Gertrude, Conshohocken; St. Margaret, Reading; Our Lady of Pompeii; St. Charles, Cornwells Heights; St. Cecilia, Our Lady of Ransom, and St. Monica in Philadelphia.
In the fall of 1999, Sister Michael Maureen began a different type of service. Sister resided at Queen of Peace in Ardsley, trained as a Hospital Chaplain and served faithfully at Abington Hospital for 18 years. Sister was revered at Abington Hospital by colleagues and patients alike; Sister was a model of compassion and faithful service.
No stranger to offering service, Sister joined the Apostolate of Prayer and Service community at our Convent Home at Camilla Hall in August 2017. As in all her acts of loving service, Sister continued this manner of IHM giving and living until her death on March 10, 2023.
In addition to her IHM Community, her Local Community at Camilla Hall, her friends, her band, and her cousins Kathleen Ryan, John and Mary Lou Ryan as well as her second cousins survive Sister Michael Maureen; Sister’s parents Joseph and Anne (Ryan) McArdle and her beloved cousin Rev. Thomas Ryan predecease Sister.
Reverend Michael Callaghan, C.M. and Reverend Msgr. Richard Bolger concelebrated Sister Michael Maureen’s Funeral Mass on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Representatives of Jefferson/Abington Pastoral Care Team Rabbi Gregory Marx and Chaplain Mr. John Olson prayed with our celebrants.
