Sister Marita Louise McGee died in Camilla Hall on Friday, February 11, 2022. Sister was in the 74th year of her religious life.
Louise Irma Mary McGee was born on September 9, 1929. Sister’s dear parents Joseph Aloysius and Louise Mary (Prat) McGee raised their family of seven children in St. Barnabas Parish in Philadelphia. Louise attended St. Barnabas Elementary School followed by West Catholic High School for Girls from which she graduated in 1947. Later, Sister earned degrees from Immaculata College and George Mason University.
Louise entered the Community on February 2, 1948; she received her habit and her religious name, Sister Marita Louise, on August 16, 1951. Sister pronounced her First Vows on April 18, 1951.
Shortly after First Profession, Sister Marita Louise went to St. Thomas More Convent and School in Arlington, VA. Sister taught children in second grade and remained there for seven years. Sister’s ministerial service in education then included St. Louis in Yeadon, St. Jerome in Tamaqua, St. Aloysius Academy in Bryn Mawr, back to St. Thomas More in Arlington where Sister served as Principal and Superior. Sister then served as Superior, Principal, and seventh grade Teacher at St. Mary in Phoenixville.
In the fall of 1981 through the school year ending 2000, Sister taught fifth grade children in St. Edmond, Philadelphia; Our Lady of Fatima, Secane; and Our Lady of Charity Brookhaven.
From the fall of 2000 through the school year ending 2009, Sister was the Religion Coordinator and assisted in the Development Office at St. Aloysius Academy.
In August 2009, Sister Marita Louise continued her faithful and joyful IHM mission of prayer and service in Camilla Hall until her death on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes on February 11, 2022. Sister entered our IHM Community on the Feast of the Purification and died on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes – the love of Our Blessed Mother encompassed her IHM journey. May she know eternal peace.
Her IHM Community, her Camilla Community, her brother Tom McGee (Rosemary), her sister-in-law Rita (Joseph McKee) her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces/nephews survive Sister Marita Louise.
Sister’s parents Joseph Aloysius and Louise Mary (Prat) McGee, her sisters Carolyn Sheehan (John) and Marie Sweeney (William), her brothers Joseph, Edward (Agnes), and Francis (Eleanor) predecease Sister.
Reverend Michael Callaghan, CM celebrated Sister’s Funeral Mass on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 10:30 a.m.
