Sister Marie Shaun McShane died in Camilla Hall on March 29, 2023. Sister Shaun was in the 73rd year of religious life.
Regina Clare (Jeanne) McShane was born on February 29, 1932. Her parents John McShane and Catherine McShane (O’Leary) ultimately settled their family in St. James Parish in Falls Church, Virginia.
Jeanne’s elementary education spanned four different schools: Our Lady of Holy Souls, Philadelphia; Gonzaga Orphanage, Philadelphia; Immaculate Conception, Philadelphia; and Villa Maria Academy, Falls Church, Virginia. Jeanne attended Immaculate Heart High School Academy in Fountain Springs, PA (1946-1950). Later, while in the Community, Sister earned an A.B. degree in Spanish from Immaculata College, and an M.A. degree in Spanish from Millersville State College.
Jeanne entered the Congregation on September 8, 1950; received her habit and her religious name Sister Marie Shaun on March 26, 1951, and pronounced her First Vows on April 5, 1953.
From April 1953 through mid-January 1969, Sister Marie Shaun worked with children in fifth through sixth grades. Sister taught in a variety of places. Sister served in St. Matthew, Philadelphia; St. Ann, Lansford; Our Lady of Grace, Penndel; St. Joan of Arc, Philadelphia. In August 1958, Sister willingly served children in South America. Sister taught in San Antonio School in Callao, Peru for six years. Upon Sister’s return, she served at St. Joachim School in Philadelphia.
From January 1969 through the school year ending in 1981, Sister taught Spanish to high school students. Sister taught at Immaculata High School in Somerville, NJ; Archbishop Prendergast in Drexel Hill; Marian High School in Tamaqua; and Holy Name High School in Reading.
Sister Marie Shaun rendered a different type of service during the 1982-1983 school year. Sister served our Sisters in Camilla Hall as a staff member; after which, she taught children in seventh grade for one year at St. Philomena School in Lansdowne.
Once again (1983-1989), Sister Marie Shaun willingly served students in South America. Sister taught high school students at Villa Maria in Santiago, Chile. Instead of teaching Spanish to these students, Sister taught English. After Sister’s return to the States, Sister taught students at Lourdes High School in Mt. Carmel, PA and Cardinal O’Hara High School in Springfield.
In August 1993 through August 2002, Sister Marie Shaun served at our IHM Literacy and G.E.D. Center at Incarnation Parish in Philadelphia. Sister worked tirelessly teaching adults how to read and to prepare many to earn a high school diploma.
Sister Marie Shaun next served as a Pastoral Minister for four years at St. Patrick Parish in Norristown until the summer of 2006. From the fall of 2006 through the school year ending 2011, Sister was a general office assistant at St. John Neumann/Maria Goretti High School in South Philadelphia.
Sister Marie Shaun had the wonderful privilege of being part of Our Mother of Perpetual Help House of Prayer Community in Nesquehoning, PA from August 2011 to August 2013.
In August 2013 Sister received her final assignment, Sister readily agreed to be a part of the Staff Community at Camilla Hall. When Sister’s health began to diminish, she became part of the Apostolate of Prayer Community at Camilla Hall until her death on March 29, 2023.
