Sister Alice M. Gleason, IHM
Formerly Sister Regina Cordium

Sister Alice Gleason died in Camilla Hall on Sunday, July 21, 2019, in the 69th year of her religious life.  Sister just celebrated her 88th birthday.

Alice Gleason was born on July 10, 1931 in Philadelphia. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants, of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on September 8, 1950. Sister received the Habit of the Congregation on March 26, 1951; Sister’s religious name was Sister Regina Cordium. Sister professed First Vows on April 5, 1953.

From this date forward, Sister’s professional ministry spanned service as both an elementary and a high school teacher. Sister served in Newtown Square; Ashland, PA; and Philadelphia. From August 1993 through August 2004 Sister was the Director of Development at St. Hubert High School; then, in August 2004 Sister served as Development Consultant. In August 2016, Sister continued to serve wholeheartedly in the Apostolate of Prayer until her death on July 21, 2019 in her home at Camilla Hall.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA on Friday, July 26 at 10:30 am.  Reverend Michael S. Olivere was the celebrant and homilist. Reverend Brendan Horan, SJ and Deacon Patrick Thorp also served at the altar.

Sister’s parents Francis X and Rose (Harkins) Gleason, and her brothers Francis J. (aka Buddy), and Joseph (Margaret) predecease Sister Alice.  Sister is survived by members of her IHM Community, her sister-in-law Violet (Vi) and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Sister M. Dorothy Fogarty, IHM
Formerly Sister Regina Alice

Sister Dorothy Fogarty, also known as Sister Regina Alice, died in Camilla Hall on Saturday, June 1 2019 in the 65th year of her religious life.  Sister Dorothy was just shy of her 83rd birthday.  Sister was born in Bridgeport, on July 12, 1936.  Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on September 8, 1954 from St. Augustine Parish in Bridgeport, PA.

Sister professed first vows on March 10, 1957.  Sister taught math to children in grades 8 through 12 for most of her teaching ministry. Sister taught in Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Shamokin, Easton, and Feasterville.  Sister’s last assignment before going into Camilla Hall was at Archbishop Carroll High School in Strafford in October 2000.  As a resident in Camilla Hall, Sister was an active member of the Apostolate of Prayer and service to our Sisters there.

Sister Dorothy’s parents Maurice and Alice (Crimmins) Fogarty, her siblings, Richard (Louise), Maurice (Kathryn), and Alice Ann Noble (Howard) predecease Sister.

The Community celebrated Sister Dorothy’s Funeral Mass on Wednesday, June 5, at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA.  Reverend Brendan Horan, S.J. was the Celebrant and Homilist. The concelebrants were Rev. James Flynn, O.S.A. and Rev. William E. Dean.

Sister M. Kathleen Gorman, IHM
Formerly Sister Alice Joseph

Sister Kathleen Gorman died in Camilla Hall on Thursday, May 23, 2019 in the 59th year of her religious life.  Sister Kathleen was 77 years old.

Sister was born in Philadelphia, on October 1, 1941. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on July 16, 1960 from St. Stephen Parish in Philadelphia.  Sister professed first vows on January 16, 1963.

Sister taught children in first grade from 1963 through 1968; then, Sister taught primarily seventh and eighth students. Sister Kathleen served as a Principal from 1984 through 2012.  Sister’s ministry took her to Reading; Lynchburg, VA; Philadelphia; Havertown; Villas, NJ; Somerville, NJ; Savannah, GA; Harrisburg; and upstate PA. Sister was beloved wherever she served.  Sister’s last assignment was ministering to the sick and elderly in St. Ephrem Parish 2013 through August 2017 before illness took her to Camilla Hall where she assisted our Sisters there and served as an active member of the apostolate of prayer.

We celebrated Sister Kathleen’s Funeral Mass on Wednesday, May 29, at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA.  Reverend George Winine was the Celebrant and Homilist. The concelebrants were Msgr. Thomas Murray, Msgr. Kenneth McAteer, Rev. Edward Burke, Rev. Philip Burger, and Rev. William Dean.

Sister’s parents, Joseph and Alice (Carr) predecease Sister Kathleen.  Family members present included her brothers Joseph (Lynn), Sean (Patricia), and Kevin; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and wonderful Sister friends and loving colleagues who ministered with Sister over the years.

Sister Mary Louise Birster, IHM
Formerly Sister Peter Mary

Sister Mary died very suddenly in Chestnut Hill Hospital on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, in the 68th year of her religious life.  Sister was 8 days shy of her 85th birthday.  Sister Mary Louise was born in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania on May 8, 1934.

Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on September 8, 1951 from St. Joseph Parish in Ashland, Pennsylvania. Sister Mary professed her first vows on March 11, 1954.

Sister served children as an elementary grade teacher from 1954 through 1958 in the Delaware County area of the Philadelphia Archdiocese. From 1958 through 1964, Sister Mary served in Callao, South America where Sister taught grades 9 through 12.  Upon her return to the States, Sister began her many years of service as a high school educator with a brief period in 1969 where Sister served as a member of the Formation Personnel at Villa Maria House of Studies.

From 1970 through 2017, Sister taught high school students; she served as Dean of Studies at Trinity High School in Shiremanstown; served as Principal Our Lady of Lourdes Academy in Miami and Immaculata High School in Somerville. Sister’s most cherished mission of service was to teach, and this she did with dedication and love, Sister’s last teaching mission was at Trinity High School in Shiremanstown in the Diocese of Harrisburg where she was beloved by colleagues, students, parents, and all of those whom she touched simply by her presence.

Sister Mary entered Camilla Hall in September 2017 to take up her final assignment, the “Apostolate of Prayer and Service.”

Sister Mary’s parents, Peter and Mary (Vogel) Birster predecease Sister Mary. Sister is survived by loving cousins, and friends too numerous to articulate, and of course, her beloved Congregation of IHM Sisters.

Reverend Monsignor Seamus F. Brennan (homilist), along with Reverends Anthony M. Sirianni, John Maria Devaney, OP, Tholitho Nyuwi, Joseph McLaughlin, O.Praem, and William E. Dean celebrated Sister’s Funeral Mass at Camilla Hall on Tuesday May 7, 2019.  In addition, Sister Catherine de Notre Dame, a Little Sister of the Poor (Sister Mary Birster’s cousin) who serves in Maryland, was present at this holy Mass.

Sister Geraldine Marie Kane, IHM

Sister Geraldine died in Camilla Hall on Thursday, April 25, 2019, in the 70th year of her religious life.  Sister was 94 years old.  Born in Philadelphia, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on September 8, 1949 from Saint Matthew Parish in Philadelphia. Sister pronounced her first vows on April 13, 1952.  From that point forward, Sister Geraldine served as an elementary grade school teacher through 1978; from 1978 through 1986, Sister Geraldine served as Principal at St. Agatha-James and St. Clement schools respectively.

In August of 1997, Sister resided at Pacis Hall and served our Sisters in Camilla Hall. In 2007, Sister Geraldine moved to Camilla Hall where she continued to serve our Sisters and be a full time Apostle of Prayer.

Her parents, Howard and Elizabeth (Fahey) Kane, her brothers Elmer (Nell), Preston (Madeline), Walter (Charlotte), Edward (Margaret), Howard (Rita), and her sisters Jessie, Dolores (James), Eleanor (Joseph) predecease Sister Geraldine. Sister is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and her Congregation of IHM Sisters.

Sister Marian Regina Sweeney, IHM

Sister Marian Regina, IHM died in Camilla Hall on Good Friday, April 19, 2019 in the 66th year of her religious life.  Sister was three days short of her 85th birthday. Sister was born on April 22, 1934 in Philadelphia.

Sister entered the IHM Community on September 8, 1953 from St. Gabriel Parish in South Philadelphia. Sister pronounced her first vows on March 10, 1956.  From that point forward, Sister Marian taught children in elementary school until 1965. Sister then taught high school students in North and South America through June 1977.  Sister Marian then served in leadership as Superior and Principal in the Philadelphia area through 1988.  In 1988 Sister Marian Regina served our IHM Sisters as the Assistant to our Congregational Treasurer in the areas Insurance, Social Security, Medicare and ‘all things’ Medical.  Sister served generously, tirelessly, and patiently.

In March 2018, after thirty years of tireless service in the Motherhouse, health issues prompted Sister Marian Regina to choose a ministry in Camilla Hall where her service would continue in the Apostolate of Prayer.

Her parents James and Bridget (Mitchell) Sweeney, her brother Alexander (Mary), and her sisters Catherine Ellis (William), Teresa Cornish (William), Margaret Borio (Edward), Mary, and Elizabeth predecease Sister Marian Regina.

Sister is survived by many loving, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews and her Congregation of IHM Sisters.

Reverend William Dean and Reverend Joseph McLaughlin celebrated her Funeral Mass at Camilla Hall on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Camilla Hall.

Sister Geraldine M. Whitman, IHM

Sister Geraldine M. Whitman died in Camilla Hall on Thursday, April 18, 2019, in the 61st year of her religious life.  Sister was just shy of her 79th birthday.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, on June 23, 1940, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on July 16, 1958, from Mater Doloroso Parish.  Sister professed her vows on January 17, 1961.

Sister served children as an elementary school teacher in the areas of Philadelphia, Morrisville, New Jersey, Falls Church and Virginia Beach until 2002. From that point on, Sister served as a chaplain minister to patients at Norristown State Hospital until August 2013, when Sister Geraldine took up residence at Camilla Hall to continue her ministry of service in the Apostolate of Prayer and Assistance.

Reverend William E. Dean celebrated the Funeral Mass at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA on April 23, 2019.

Sister is survived by members of her religious community, many friends, and acquaintances.  Sister was predeceased by her parents, George and Geraldine Kelly, and her brother Robert (Monica).

Sister Mary D. Iavarone, IHM
Formerly known as Sister Maria Dominica

Sister Mary Iavarone, IHM died in Camilla Hall on Sunday, February 3, 2019, in the 66th  year of her religious life.  Sister was 87 years old.  Born in Philadelphia, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on September 8, 1952 from Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Philadelphia. Sister pronounced her first vows on March 3, 1955.

During the course of the next 40 years, Sister Mary taught in many elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and for a brief time, Sister taught in Annandale, Virginia.  From 1991 until August 2007, Sister served as a tutor/school assistant then moved into pastoral work:  visiting the sick and elderly in their homes as well as in the hospital.  Sister Mary’s final act of service was to the Apostolate of Prayer in Camilla Hall in August 2007.

Sister Mary is predeceased by her parents Stanley and Pierina Costantini Iavarone; her sister, Felicia Cacciavillani (Amadeo); and her sister-in-law Virginia Damiani.  Sister is survived by her brothers Andrew (Doris) and Victor Damiani, and her Congregation of IHM Sisters.

Reverend William Dean celebrated the Funeral Mass on Wednesday, February 6 at Camilla Hall.

Sister M. Catherine Green, IHM
Formerly: Sister John Aloysius

Sister Catherine Green, IHM died in Camilla Hall on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, in the 73rd year of her religious life.  Sister was 91 years old.  Born in Philadelphia, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on September 8, 1945 from Immaculate Conception Parish in Philadelphia. Sister pronounced her first vows on September 15, 1948.  From that point forward, Sister Catherine served in many capacities during her religious journey: grade school teacher, high school teacher, principal, superior and office assistant. Sister Catherine served in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. In August 2009, Sister Catherine entered Camilla Hall where her service continued in the Apostolate of Prayer.

Her parents John Aloysius and Catherine Fagan Green predecease Sister Catherine as well as her sister Anna T. Powell (Daniel) and her deceased IHM Aunt, Sister Regina Ange and her deceased IHM cousin, Sister Marie Kelly.

Her loving nephew, Reverend Daniel F.X. Powell, who, with Reverend William Dean, celebrated her Funeral Mass at Camilla Hall on Saturday, February 9 at Camilla Hall.

Sister Mary Canavan, IHM
Formerly: Sister Mary of the Infant

Sister Mary Canavan, IHM died in Camilla Hall on Friday, January 18, 2019, in the 70th year of her religious life.  Sister was 89 years old. 

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on September 8, 1948 from St. Madeleine Sophie Parish in Philadelphia. Sister pronounced her first vows on April 18, 1949.

Sister taught in many elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Sister also served as a teacher in Florida and in South America.  Sister served in the ministry of Catholic education from 1951 through August 2011 before her final assignment to the Apostolate of Prayer in Camilla Hall in August 2011.

Reverend William Dean celebrated the Funeral Mass on Wednesday, January 23 at Camilla Hall. Reverend Joseph McGeown, a long-time friend of Sister Mary, delivered a beautiful, meaningful homily. Sister Mary has a very large family and in attendance were many, many family members, friends and beloved IHM Sisters.  Sister is survived by her brothers Joseph (Joann), Francis, her sisters Catherine McManus, Roseanne Norris (Walter), Marguerite Teresa Gaffney (Joseph), Eileen Hill, her sister-in-law Doris and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

 

Sister Marie Isabel Carpio

Sister Marie Isabel Carpio-More died in Camilla Hall on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, just shy of her 76th birthday in the 54th year of her religious life.

Born in Lima, Peru, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1964 in our House of Formation in Las Condes, Santiago, Chile. Sister Isabel professed her First Vows on February 11, 1967 in Chile.

Sister Isabel served in many different capacities in her native South America. Sister served as grade school teacher; teacher of Religion in High School; Coordinator of Pastoral Activities; Assistant to Religion Department and Pastoral Chairperson.

In April 2016, Sister Isabel became ill and came to the United States to receive the needed care in our Nursing Convent Home, Camilla Hall.  Sister Isabel then began her final service dedicated to the Apostolate of Prayer.

Sister Isabel is survived by her sisters:  Rosa Maria, Augusta, Raquel, Ana Maria; her brothers Guillermo, Luis, and Miguel and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister Isabel’s three sisters visited her in Camilla in September; it was not possible for any of the family to travel from South America for Sister’s Funeral Mass in the United States.

Reverend William Dean celebrated the Funeral Mass at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:30 am. Many of our Sisters who were missioned in South America over the years attended this beautiful Mass and participated in the Entrance and Recessional Procession. It was a most loving tribute to Sister Isabel.

 

Sister Mary Rosina Burns

Sister Mary Rosina Burns died in Camilla Hall on Friday, November 16, 2018 in the 60th year of her religious life. Sister was 78 years old.

Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on July 16, 1958 from St. Clement Parish in Philadelphia. Sister professed her vows on January 17, 1961.

Sister taught briefly in the elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia after professing her vows; then, while earning her RN Degree, Sister served our elderly and infirmed Sisters at her beloved Camilla Hall beginning in August 1968 until her death in November 2018.  Sister Rosina modeled professionalism, dedication, and compassion throughout her life of service.

Sister Rosina is survived by her local Community at Camilla Hall; her brothers: John (Rose) and James (Sonja), and her sister Elizabeth Anne Bradley (George); and, many loving nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA on Wednesday, November 18, 2018.  Rev. William E. Dean was the Celebrant and Homilist and Reverend Joseph McLaughlin, (O.Praem) and Reverend William Trader, (O.Praem) concelebrated.  Deacon Kenneth Cavara assisted. Countless associates, friends, and IHM Sisters were present for this celebration of Sister Mary Rosina.

 

Sister Marita Helen Harrington, IHM

Sister Marita Helen Harrington, IHM died in Camilla Hall on Sunday, October 28, 2018, in the 67th year of her religious life.  Sister was 85 years old.  Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on September 8, 1951 from Transfiguration Parish in Philadelphia. Sister Marita professed her vows on March 11, 1954.

Sister taught in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for twenty years then moved into the service area of Guidance Counselling in the Dioceses of Harrisburg and Arlington.  In 1986 Sister Marita came to Camilla Hall to serve our elderly and infirmed Sisters; this was her last assignment before entering the Apostolate of Prayer at Camilla Hall in August 2008.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA, on Friday, November 2, 2018. The celebrant and homilist was Rev. David Grover. Also concelebrating was Rev. Msgr. Joseph Logrip and Rev. William E. Dean.

In addition to her Congregation of IHM Sisters, Sister is survived by loving nieces and nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews.  Sister Marita Helen was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Marian Grover Harrington, and siblings Joseph, Ann (Charles), and Frances.

 

Sister Marie Honora Fraties, IHM

Sister Marie Honora Fraties, formerly known as Marie Theresa Fraties, died in Camilla Hall on Friday, October 26, 2018 in the 68th year of her religious life.  Sister was 86 years old.

Sister was born in Philadelphia in 1932. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart in 1950 from St. Martin of Tours Parish. Sister professed her vows on April 5, 1953.

Sister taught in various elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Sister Honora also served the Community at Villa Maria House of Studies from August 1995 through August 2001; then again from August 2004 through August 2012 before being assigned to the Apostolate of Prayer in Camilla Hall in 2012.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA on Wednesday, October 31, 2018.  Msgr. Joseph Logrip was Celebrant and Homilist. The Concelebrants were Rev. William E. Dean, Rev. William J. Lynn, and Rev. Msgr. Stephen P. McHenry.

In addition to her Congregation of IHM Sisters, Sister Honora is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Sister is predeceased by her parents James and Mary Ann Holland Fraties, and her brother James (Elizabeth).

Sister Joan M. Carroll (Ronald Maureen), IHM

Sister M. Joan Carroll, formerly Sister Ronald Maureen, died in Camilla Hall on October 7, 2018 in the 62nd year of her religious life. Sister was 80 years old. Born in Norristown, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1956 from St. Patrick Parish, Norristown, PA and professed her vows in 1958.

Sister taught and was principal in elementary schools mainly in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.  Sister also served in the Dioceses of Arlington in the early 1960s and in the Metuchen Diocese in the later 1960s.  Sister served our Sisters as Superior at Pacis Hall Convent before being assigned to Camilla Hall on August 2, 2010 for her ministry in the Apostolate of Prayer.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA, on Thursday October 11, 2018. The principal celebrant and homilist was Reverend Msgr. Joseph Logrip; also concelebrating were Rev. Msgr. Richard T. Bolger, Reverend John Babowitch, Reverend Thomas J. Brennan, Reverend Martin E. Woodeshick, and Reverend William E. Dean.

In addition to her congregation, Sister is survived by her sister Rosellen Smith.

 

Sister M. Francis Joseph Loughran, IHM

Sister Francis Joseph Loughran died in Camilla Hall on Sunday, September 30, 2018 just shy of her 101st birthday.  Sister entered her eternal reward in the 77th year of her religious life.

Sister Francis was born in Ireland on November 18, 1917.  Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on October 2, 1941 from St. John the Baptist Parish in Manayunk.

Sister Francis taught children primarily in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.  Sister’s final assignment was as an active participant in the Apostolate of Prayer which she rendered faithfully at Camilla Hall from August 10, 2008 to the time of her death.  Sister Francis Joseph was a beloved and joyful Sister, Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, may she rest in peace.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA on October 4, 2018. Reverend William E. Dean was the Celebrant and the Homilist.  The local community at Camilla Hall along with Sister friends made over the years participated in Sisters’ Funeral Mass and Burial.

Sister Francis Joseph is survived by her sister Lucy Fritz and her sister-in-law Florence (Frank).

 

Sister M. Bernadette Rodemer, IHM

Sister M. Bernadette Rodemer, IHM (formerly Sister Raymond Mary) died in Camilla Hall on August 15, 2018, in the 63rd year of her religious life. Sister was 83 years old, born in Philadelphia, PA.  Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1955 from Immaculate Conception Parish, Germantown and professed her vows in 1957. Sister died on the anniversary of her First Profession of Vows.

Sister taught in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and the Dioceses of Camden, Allentown, and Harrisburg. Sister’s last assignment was tutoring children at St. Raymond School in the Villas in New Jersey. Sister retired to Camilla Hall in 2007 for the Apostolate of Prayer.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA, on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. The principal celebrant and homilist was Rev. Leonard N. Peterson; also concelebrating were Rev. William E. Dean and Msgr. Joseph Logrip.

In addition to her loving Congregation of IHM Sisters, she is survived by her brothers Donald (Denise) Leuthy and Michael (Judith) Leuthy as well as a niece and grandniece.  Sister was predeceased by her parents Raymond and Rita McGee Leuthy.

 

Sister M. Elizabeth Ann Kealy, IHM

Sister M. Elizabeth Ann Kealy, IHM (formerly Sister M. John Bernard) died in Camilla Hall on June 13, 2018, in the 55th year of her religious life. She was 73 years old. Born in Mount Carmel, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1963 from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish and professed her vows in 1965.

Sister taught in elementary schools in the Archdioceses of Philadelphia, Atlanta, and the Diocese of Allentown, PA, as well as serving for 17 years in Peru and Chile. Sister Elizabeth Ann’s last assignment was as a Director of Religious Education for 9 years in the Ashland/Shenandoah, PA parishes. Sister retired in 2014 to Camilla Hall for the Apostolate of Prayer.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA, on Tuesday, July 19, 2018. The principal celebrant and homilist was Rev. Msgr. Joseph Logrip; also concelebrating was Rev. William E. Dean and Deacon Thomas O’Brien.

In addition to her loving congregation of IHM Sisters, she is survived by her sisters, Sister Marie Hubert, IHM, Ellen Pels (Robert), Loretta Vancho, Patricia Kealy, and her brother, John Kealy. She was predeceased by her parents Hubert and Catherine (Houston) Kealy and her brother, Rev. Hubert Kealy.

 

Sister Edward Mary McBride, IHM

Sister Edward Mary McBride, IHM died in Paoli Hospital on June 7, 2018, in the 65th year of her religious life. She was 86 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1950 from St. Matthew’s Parish and professed her vows in 1953.

Sister taught Music and elementary school classes and served in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for more than 40 years. Sister Edward Mary’s last assignment was at St. Matthew, Philadelphia, where she tutored students. Sister retired in 2013 to Camilla Hall for the Apostolate of Prayer.

Sister M. Agnes Frances Slater, IHM


Sister M. Agnes Frances Slater, IHM died in Camilla Hall on March 28, 2018, in the73rd year of her religious life. She was 92 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1944 from Incarnation Parish, Philadelphia, PA, and professed her vows in 1947.

Sister taught in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and in the Dioceses of Arlington, VA, and Metuchen, NJ. Before her last assignment to the Apostolate of Prayer in Camilla Hall, Sister served for many years in hospital ministry at Jefferson and Frankford Hospitals.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA, on Monday, April 2, 2018. The celebrant and homilist was Rev. John O’Hara; the concelebrants were Rev. Daniel Swift, Rev. John Kolodziej, OSFS and Rev. Msgr. Joseph Logrip.

Sister Marie Susan Bruno, IHM


Sister Marie Susan Bruno, IHM, died in Paoli Hospital on March 6, 2018, in the 42nd year of her religious life. She was 65 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1975 from St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Drexel Hill, PA, and professed her vows in 1978.

Sister taught in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, as well as serving as director of religious education for many years in various parishes in the Philadelphia area. Sister Susan’s last assignment was in Camilla Hall where she planned spiritual enrichment programs for the sisters.

Sister was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Marie Smith Bruno, and her brother-in-law Thomas Hoy.

Sister Mary Laureen Discher, IHM died in Camilla Hall on February 28, 2018, in the 80th year of her religious life. She was 98 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1937 from St. Martin of Tours Parish, Philadelphia, PA, and professed her vows in 1941.

Sister taught in elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, as well as in the Dioceses of Allentown, PA, Harrisburg, PA, and Lima, Peru.  Before Sister Laureen’s last assignment in the Apostolate of Prayer at Camilla Hall, Sister spent many years in service at Villa Maria House of Studies.

Sister Mercita Marie Valentine, IHM

Sister Mercita Marie Valentine, IHM died in Camilla Hall on February 21, 2018, in the 67th year of her religious life. She was 86 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1951 from St. Laurence Parish, Upper Darby, PA, and professed her vows in 1953.

Sister taught in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, as well as in the Dioceses of Allentown, PA, Harrisburg, PA, and Metuchen, NJ. Before Sister Mercita’s last assignment in the Apostolate of Prayer in Camilla Hall, Sister served as a high school office assistant.

Sister Charles Mary Hanlon, IHM

Sister Charles Mary Hanlon, IHM died in Camilla Hall on February 15, 2018, in the 81st year of her religious life. She was 99 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1937 from St. Edmonds’s Parish, Philadelphia, PA, and professed her vows in 1940.

Sister taught and served as a reading specialist in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, as well as in the Diocese of Allentown, PA. Sister Charles Mary was involved for many years with assisting disadvantaged children through the Title I Program of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). Before Sister Charles Mary’s last assignment in the Apostolate of Prayer in Camilla Hall, she served as a Learning Consultant in the IHM Ministry Center in Philadelphia.

Sister Anne Marie Meehan, formerly Sister Marita Bernard, died in Camilla Hall on January 29, 2018, in the 68th year of her religious life. She was 88 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1949 from Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, Philadelphia, PA, and professed her vows in 1952.

Sister taught in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, as well as in the Dioceses of Camden, NJ and Hartford, CT. Before Sister Anne Marie’s last assignment in the Apostolate of Prayer in Camilla Hall, she was a visitor to the sick and elderly in Holy Innocents Parish, Philadelphia.

Sister Mary D. Ellis, IHM died in Camilla Hall on January 17, 2018, in the 22nd year of her religious life. She was 44 years old. Born in Somerville, NJ, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1995 from Immaculate Conception Parish, Somerville, NJ, and professed her vows in 1998.

Sister taught in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and in Chile and Peru where she also served as pastoral minister and religious superior. Sister’s last assignment was at Villa Maria House of Studies as Directress of Novices for the IHM Congregation.

Sister Marie St. Michael Moser, IHM died in Camilla Hall on January 12, 2018, in the 68th year of her religious life. She was 91 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1949 from St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Cornwells Heights, and professed her vows in 1952.

Sister M. Anna William Doyle, IHM died in Camilla Hall on January 10, 2018, in the 60th year of her religious life. She was 78 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1958 from Ascension Parish, Philadelphia, PA, and professed her vows in 1960.

Sister taught in elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and in the Dioceses of Allentown, PA, Harrisburg, PA, and Richmond, VA. Sister Anna William also served in the IHM Literacy Program before her last assignment to the Apostolate of Prayer in Camilla Hall.

Sister Mary of Peace Slater, IHM

Sister Mary of Peace Slater died in Camilla Hall on January 4, 2018, in the 72nd year of her religious life. She was 96 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1946 from Incarnation Parish, Philadelphia, PA, and professed her vows in 1948.

Before her entrance into the Congregation, Sister taught at Hallahan Catholic Girls High School and after her profession of vows, she taught in secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Diocese of Harrisburg. After serving on the staff for 12 years at Camilla Hall, Sister Mary’s last assignment was to the Apostolate of Prayer.

Sister Mary Richard Donahue died in Camilla Hall on December 3, 2017, in the 65th year of her religious life. She was 91 years old. Born in Havertown, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1952 from St. Denis Parish, Havertown, PA, and professed her vows in 1955.

Sister taught and was principal and educational assistant for more than 15 years in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and in the Diocese of Charleston, SC. Sister Mary Richard’s last assignment was in the Apostolate of Prayer in Camilla Hall.

Sister M. Joan Connell (Eugene Mary), IHM

 

Sister M. Joan Connell, formerly Sister Eugene Mary, died in Camilla Hall on October 21, 2017, in the 65th year of her religious life. She was 85 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1951 from St. Bartholomew Parish, Philadelphia, PA, and professed her vows in 1954.

Sister taught and was principal in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Dioceses of Allentown and Atlanta, and she also served as a counselor in secondary schools in which she ministered. Sister Joan’s last assignment before her mission in the Apostolate of Prayer in Camilla Hall was as an office assistant at St. Hubert’s High School.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA, on Thursday October 26, 2017.

In addition to her congregation, Sister is survived by her sister Mary McBride, sister-in-law Scherle (Joseph Connell) and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand-nephews.

Sister Regina Mundi Boell, IHM

Sister Regina Mundi Boell, IHM died in Camilla Hall on Saturday, October 7, 2017, in the 63rd year of her religious life. She was 81 years old. Born in Oakford, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1954 from Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish and professed her vows in 1957.

Sister taught in the elementary schools of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and in the Dioceses of Arlington, VA, and Harrisburg and Allentown, PA. Her last assignment was to the Apostolate of Prayer at Camilla Hall Nursing Home where Sister also served on the staff and as manager of the Camilla Hall Gift Shop for many years.

Sister Marian Teresa Brophy, IHM

Sister Marian Teresa Brophy, IHM (formerly, Sister Joseph William), died in Camilla Hall on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, in the 73rd year of her religious life. She was 93 years old.  Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1944 from Most Blessed Sacrament Parish and professed her vows in 1947.

Sister taught in the elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, taught Religion and English in Chile and Peru and served as a Director of Religious Education in the Diocese of Camden, NJ.  Sister also served as principal in parish schools in the dioceses of Allentown, PA and Raleigh, NC. Her last assignment before the Apostolate of Prayer at Camilla Hall Nursing Home was in the IHM Literacy Center in Philadelphia where she served for 5 years.

Sister M. St. Kathleen Blaston, IHM

Sister M. St. Kathleen Blaston, IHM, died in Camilla Hall on Wednesday, August 30th, 2017, in the 79th year of her religious life.  She was 96 years old.  Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1939 from Gesu Parish, Philadelphia, PA, and professed her vows in 1941. 

Sister taught in the elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and served for many years as a guidance counselor at Bishop Denis O’Connell High School in the Diocese of Arlington, VA. Sister also served in the Admissions Office of Immaculata University, then Immaculata College. Her last assignment was at Camilla Hall Nursing Home in the Apostolate of Prayer.

Sister M. Margaret Elizabeth Jones, IHM, died in Camilla Hall on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, in the 73rd year of her religious life. She was 96 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1944 from St. Teresa Parish, Philadelphia, PA, and professed her vows in 1947.

Sister taught in the elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and in the Diocese of Allentown, PA. Sister also served for 20 years as an elementary school librarian. Her last assignment was at Camilla Hall Nursing Home in the Apostolate of Prayer.

Sister Miriam Glowacz, IHM


Sister Miriam Glowacz, IHM died in Camilla Hall on Sunday, August 6, 2017, in the 64th year of her religious life. She was 82 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1953 from Nativity Parish, Philadelphia, PA, and professed her vows in 1956.

While Sister began teaching in eighth grade, she spent the majority of her teaching career in high schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia; and in the Dioceses of Metuchen, NJ; Arlington, VA; and Allentown, PA. Her last assignment was at Camilla Hall Nursing Home in the Apostolate of Prayer.

Sister is survived by members of her religious congregation, her sister-in-law Dorothy (Gerald) and many loving nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister was predeceased by her parents, William and Anne Diamond Glowacz, and her brothers, William (Connie), Gerald, and her sister, Sister Regina Miriam, IHM.

 

Sister Mary Damien O’Donnell, IHM

Sister Mary Damien O’Donnell died in Camilla Hall on August 3, 2017. She was 97 years old. Born in Philadelphia, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1941 from Seven Dolors Parish in Wyndmoor, PA, and professed her vows in 1944.

Sister taught various grades and Music in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Dioceses of Allentown and Harrisburg. Sister entered Camilla Hall in 2004.

Sister is survived by members of her religious community, her brother Rev. Msgr. John F. O’Donnell, and many loving nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grand-nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Bridget McCormick O’Donnell, her brothers, Henry, James, and Francis, and sisters, Patricia (Daniel) Flynn, Catherine (Edward) Greco and Alice (Edward) McCarthy.

 Sister Eunice Marie Timoney, IHM

Sister Eunice Marie Timoney died in Camilla Hall on July 16, 2017 in the 60th year of her religious life. She was 81 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1957 from Seven Dolors, Wyndmoor, PA, and professed her vows in 1960.

Sister taught in elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Diocese of Allentown. Sister was assigned to Villa Maria House of Studies as the Director of Postulants. She was then elected Treasurer General of the Congregation in 1974 and held that position until 1994. In 1994 Sister was assigned to SS. Philip and James Parish, Exton, PA, to serve as Director of Religious Education. During this time, she was President of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Association of Parish Directors, Coordinators and Administration of Religious Education (PD/C/ARE) for two terms.

Sister is survived by her sister Dolores Shields, sisters-in-law Norita (Joseph) Miriam (Thomas), Rita (Mark), many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Frances Sullivan Timoney, her brothers, Joseph, Thomas, Clement (Lucille), Mark and brother-in-law Robert Shields.

 

Sister M. Anne Fidelis Tumelty, IHM

Sister Anne Fidelis Tumelty died in Camilla Hall on Thursday, July 6, 2017 in the 65th year of her religious life. She was 88 years old. Born in Norristown, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart in 1952 from St. Philomena Parish in Lansdowne, and professed her vows in 1955.

Sister served in elementary schools and religious education in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Dioceses of Allentown, Arlington, Camden, and Richmond. She retired to Camilla in November, 2001.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA, on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. The celebrant and homilist was Rev. William E. Dean. The con-celebrants were Msgr. Joseph Logrip and Father Edward Lyons.

Sister is survived by members of her religious community, her sister-in-law Ann Tumelty, loving nephews and nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.

She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph A. and Anna B. Touey Tumelty, and a brother Joseph.

Sister M. Rita E. Devine, IHM died in Camilla Hall on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 in the 56 year of her religious life. She was 74 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1961from Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Philadelphia, PA, and professed her vows in 1964.

Sister taught in elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Sister also served as IHM Director of Religious Education and in pastoral ministry. Her last assignment was at Daylesford Abbey Spirituality Center, Paoli.

Sister Madeline Dolores Farrell died in Camilla Hall on Monday, April 10, 2017 in the 63 year of her religious life. She was 81 years old. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1954 from Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Philadelphia, PA, and professed her vows in 1957.

Sister served in the elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the Dioceses of Allentown and Arlington. Sister was assigned to Camilla Hall in 2010.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA, on April 18, 2017. The celebrant and homilist was Monsignor Joseph Logrip. The concelebrants were Monsignor Hans Browers, Reverend Joseph Dragon, and Reverend William E. Dean.

Sister is survived by members of her religious community, by her brother-in-law Donald Watson, her sister-in-law Joan Hatton, many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents John H. Sister Mary of the Sacred Heart Brignola died in Camilla Hall on Thursday, April 4, 2017, in the 68th year of her religious life. She was 86 years old. Born in Phoenixville, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1949 from St. Mary Parish, Phoenixville, PA and professed her vows in 1950.

Sister taught in the elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the Diocese of Allentown and in Peru and Chile. In 1968 Sister started her service to the Church as a Director of Religious Education beginning with Good Shepherd, Camp Hill; St. James, Falls Church; St. Agnes, Sellersville and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Hilltown. She retired to Camilla Hall in 2012.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA, on Monday, May 10, 2017. The celebrant and homilist was Rev. Michael J. Kelly. The concelebrants were: Rev. John Peterson, Rev. Thomas M. Yehl, Rev. William E. Dean and Msgr. Joseph Logrip.

Sister is survived by loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Philomena Dellaquilla Brignola, her brothers Daniel (Betty), Dominic (Phyllis), Gerald (Joan), and her sister Anna (Robert) Feulner.

Sister Catherine Dolores White died in Camilla Hall on Wednesday, March 31, 2017 in the 72nd year of her religious life. She was 96 years old. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1944 from St. John the Baptist Parish in Manayunk, Philadelphia, PA, and professed her vows in 1947.

Sister served in secondary and elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and taught seventeen years in our South American schools. She was assigned to Camilla Hall in 2008.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA, on Friday, April 12, 2017. The celebrant and homilist was Reverent William E. Dean. The concelebrant was Monsignor Joseph Logrip.

Sister is survived by members of her religious community, her sister Bernice Edele and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Catherine Mullen White, her brothers Joseph (Cora Lee) and Raymond (Grace), and a brother-in-law, John Edele.

Born in Phoenixville, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1947 from St. Mary Parish, Phoenixville, PA, and professed her vows in 1949.

Sister served in Elementary Schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Dioceses of Trenton, and Allentown. She retired to Camilla Hall in 2008.

Sister Grace Marie Stankiewicz died in Camilla Hall on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 in the 60th year of her religious life.  She was 77 years old.  Born in Shenandoah, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1957 from St. Casimir Parish in Shenandoah, PA and professed her vows in 1960.

Sister served in the elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the Dioceses of Arlington and Metuchen and various parishes in the Diocese of Allentown for nearly 20 years.

Sister Virgo Maria Werner died in Camilla Hall on Thursday, January 19, 2017, in the 68th year of her religious life.  She was 86 years old.  Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1949 from St. Athanasius Parish, Philadelphia and professed her vows in 1951.

Sister served in the elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for many years as well as in the Dioceses of Allentown and Richmond.   In 1980, Sister was assigned to the staff of Camilla Hall and served in various positions.

Sister Mary Stanislaus, IHM died in Chester County Hospital on Friday,     December 16, 2016 in the 73rd year of her religious life.  She was 92 years old.  Born in Philadelphia, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1943 from St. Laurence Parish, Highland Park and professed her vows in 1946.

Sister served in the elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Diocese of Virginia.  She retired to Camilla in 2007.

Sister Joan Dolores died in Camilla Hall on Thursday, December 14, 2016, in the 65th year of her religious life.   She was 84 years old.  Born in Strafford, PA, Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters,  Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1951 from St. Katharine Parish, Strafford, PA,  and professed her vows in 1954.

Sister served in Secondary Schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Diocese of Arlington.   Sister retired to Camilla Hall in 2011.

Sister was assigned to various elementary schools as teacher and principal in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Diocese of Camden, NJ. Sister joined  the staff of Camilla Hall in 2004.

Sister taught in various elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Dioceses of Arlington, Metuchen, and Camden. In 1989, Sister joined the staff at Camilla Hall in various areas. Her latest position was in the Spiritual Treasury Office.

Sister taught in various elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Dioceses of Harrisburg and Lima, Peru. Sister was assigned to Camilla Hall in 1989.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at Camilla Hall, Immaculata, PA on Friday, August 5, 2016. Rev. William E. Dean was the Celebrant and Homilist. The Concelebrants were Reverend Joseph J. Quindlen and Monsignor Joseph Logrip.

Sister is survived by members of her Religious Community and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister was predeceased by her parents, Hugh Mullin and Catherine Gallagher Mullin, her brother Hugh Mullin (June), and sisters Catherine Mandato (Samuel) and Margaret Giovinazzo (Barney).
