Sister M. St. Michel, IHM died in Camilla Hall on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. Sister was in the 70th year of her religious life. Sister was born on January 22, 1933. Her dear parents, Michael and Philomena (Kelly) Mullany raised their family in Transfiguration Parish in Philadelphia.
Elizabeth Mullany attended Transfiguration Elementary School and West Catholic Girls’ High School. Later, while in the Community, she earned her A.B. degree from Immaculata and an M.S. degree from Villanova University.
Elizabeth Mullany entered our IHM Congregation on February 2, 1951; she received her habit and her religious name Sister St. Michel on August 16, 1951. Sister ‘San’ pronounced First Vows on August 15, 1953.
Sister St. Michele’s ministry of teaching centered in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Sister taught children in grades 1, 5, 7-8, and high school students. Sister served at Incarnation, St. Monica, St. Ann (Phoenixville), St. Rose of Lima, and St. Matthew. Sister lived at St. Anselm convent while teaching at Archbishop Ryan High School.
From August 1977 through August 1984, Sister St. Michel served as superior and principal at St. Katharine Convent/School in Wayne. In 1981, Sister received a transfer to live at St. Hubert Faculty House and serve in the capacity of Regional Superior until August 1984.
From 1984 through August 1996, Sister served in the dual capacity of Superior/Principal; Superior/Vice Principal at St. John of the Cross; Our Lady of Fatima; and St. Michael in Annandale, VA.
In August 1996, Sister went to Villa Maria House of Studies to learn the skills of an archivist; the following year Sister St. Michel served as our Congregational Archivist, a task she undertook with great diligence and pride. Sister served in this capacity for 18 wonderful years.
In August 2014, Sister became part of the Camilla Hall Community as a member of the Apostolate of Prayer and Service that she rendered faithfully until her death on October 21, 2020.
Due to strict regulations during this time of the Covid 19 Pandemic, the Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 with a limited number present. Reverend William Trader was the Celebrant and the Homilist. Sister St. Michel’s sister, Ellen O’Loughlin was among those present.
Sister St. Michel’s dear parents, Michael and Philomena and her brother Michael predecease Sister. Her sister Ellen O’Loughlin, and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews and her Local Community from Camilla Hall and her Congregation of IHM Sisters mourn Sister M. St. Michel. May her beautiful soul rest in peace.
